The 23-year-old has made 18 appearances since joining in September 2024, spending the back half of last season in the USA as he completed his commitments with Major League Rugby’s San Diego Legion.
The former Northampton Saints and Bedford Blues man has scored two tries and 33 points during his time on Tyneside, including the club’s first drop-goal in more than 11 years during last season’s home victory over Exeter Chiefs.
Playing at full-back, centre and fly-half, Grayson said: “I’ve loved my time up here and was always keen to extend it, so it’s great to have it sorted.
“It’s a really exciting time to be involved at the club with everything going on under the new ownership – not just on the playing side, but all the improvements to the facilities and around the place in general.
“This is a club that’s really going places and it’s brilliant to have the contract sorted for another two years, but first and foremost it’s about the current season and taking care of what’s immediately in front of us.
“We’ve got a massive game at home to Gloucester and an unbeaten start to the Challenge Cup to build on, so that’s where all of my focus is.”
Newcastle Red Bulls’ sporting general manager Neil McIlroy welcomed news of Grayson’s contract extension, saying: “Ethan has applied himself really well and played to a consistently high standard.
“He’s a talented rugby player who is capable of playing a variety of positions for us, and I’ve been really impressed with his attitude and application.
“I look forward to seeing his continued development during this exciting period of growth for the organisation, and whilst there is an understandable focus on external recruitment I think it’s also important that we recognise and reward the talent we already have within the building.”
