Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)
Hours: Full-time (including evenings and weekends)
Reporting to: Operations Director
Based at: Kingston Park Stadium, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 8AF
ABOUT US
Newcastle Red Bulls is entering a defining phase of its journey. As one of the most ambitious clubs in English rugby, we are building the infrastructure, systems and culture required to compete at the highest level, on and off the pitch.
Technology is central to that ambition.
We are now seeking an IT Manager to lead the delivery of a secure, resilient and future-ready IT environment that underpins elite performance, commercial growth and outstanding fan and employee experience.
This is not a traditional “keep the lights on” IT role. It is an opportunity to support the design and shape of the club’s end-to-end technology ecosystem, working collaboratively with Red Bull colleagues at the heart of a high-performance sporting organisation where pace, precision and reliability matter.
THE ROLE
The IT Manager will have overall accountability for Newcastle Red Bulls’ IT operations, infrastructure and applications, acting as the club’s subject-matter expert and strategic lead for technology.
Working closely with senior leaders, operational teams and trusted partners, you will ensure that technology enables performance rather than constrains it — from matchday operations and training environments to corporate systems and commercial delivery.
You will balance hands-on operational leadership with forward-looking strategy, ensuring the club is secure, compliant and scalable as it continues to grow.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Lead the day-to-day management of IT operations, ensuring systems are robust, secure and highly available.
  • Own the club’s IT infrastructure, including networks, hardware, cloud services and core applications.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all IT matters across the organisation, translating business needs into practical technology solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement, modernisation and automation of systems and processes.
  • Manage cybersecurity, data protection and system resilience in line with best practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, contracts and service performance, ensuring value for money and service excellence.
  • Support innovation across sporting, commercial and corporate functions, enabling data-led decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Provide matchday IT support for all home and key external fixtures.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You will be a confident, credible IT leader who thrives in fast-moving, performance-driven environments. You are comfortable taking ownership, solving problems at pace and working collaboratively with non-technical stakeholders.
YOU WILL BRING:
  • Proven experience leading IT operations and infrastructure in a complex organisation.
  • Strong technical knowledge across networks, cloud services, applications and cybersecurity.
  • The ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on when required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to challenge, advise and influence.
  • A calm, solutions-focused mindset, particularly in high-pressure or time-critical situations.
  • Experience in sport, events or similarly dynamic environments is desirable but not essential.
  • This is a rare opportunity to shape the technology foundations of a club with big ambition, strong identity and a relentless drive for excellence.
SAFEGUARDING
Newcastle Red Bulls take safeguarding very seriously and are committed to ensuring that all children and adults at risk are safeguarded at all times when engaging in club activities or services.
The club has safeguarding policies and best practice guidelines to support this and expect all employees to adopt such policies and practices at all times.
The club adheres to strict guidelines, policies and procedures when recruiting staff who work with children and/or adults at risk and is committed to ensuring staff receive appropriate safeguarding training suitable to their role(s).
Successful applicants are expected to share the club’s approach to safeguarding at all times.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
Newcastle Red Bulls are an equal opportunities employer and all applicants for employment will be given equal opportunities irrespective of sex, age, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment,
pregnancy or maternity, ethnic or national origin. The post holder’s duties must be carried out in compliance with the club’s Equal Opportunities Policy, with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent Health and Safety Legislation.
These duties and responsibilities should be regarded as neither exclusive nor exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities within Newcastle Red Bulls, commensurate with the post without changing the character of the post.
